Small gains

Hi Gang

Got caught on the hop a little this weekend. Measured out the biax glass to layup this weekend and then realised that I don't have enough resin to complete both sides. Stop the bus and change tack to mix a few metaphors. So I got out the glass biax tape again and laid up the two layers on the transom and then glassed the rudder with a layer of biax cloth. More resin ordered and should be here Tuesday, just in time for me to be up the road working away. Oh the injustice of it all, work getting in the way of fun.
Still some final trimming and fairing to do and the rudder will be complete.

Have a cracking week ya'll and again thanks for visiting and reading my blog.

Cheers Jay

Progress again.

I have come to realise that winter boat building is not fun if you don't have a decent shelter. I have an old marquee frame with a rubbish old tarp that I pull over when I am working. Doesn't cut it in the real world but at the moment it's what we have and will use. The temperature has been a balmy 12 deg. C this weekend so the covers came off and between my daughter and I we glassed all 4 outer chines (seams) with 150mm wide fibreglass biaxial tape. A total of 2.6 kg added to the hull. The glass in place and being saturated with the epoxy resin. We allowed the resin to soak in and then scraped the excess further down the hull. The optimum is to end up with a matt look to the glass to ensure minimal use of resin and also to add as little weight as possible.
Port side lower chine completed.
My willing helper learning how to build boats because dad's a slave driver 😁😁.
Yours truly caught in the act of getting the job done. If you look very carefully at the bow of the boat you can see the high tech modern method of getting the composite laminate to adhere to the shape of the bow.

Thanks for visiting and please feel free to leave any comments or questions and I will be happy to answer them.
